Kereos, Inc., a St. Louis-based biotechnology company developing pharmaceuticals to detect and treat cancer and heart disease, recently announced the promotion of Dennis Riley to Senior Vice President of Research and Development.  In his expanded role Dr. Riley will have overall responsibility for pre-clinical development of Kereos’ pipeline of products, including its lead candidates for cancer treatment and for tumor magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Dr. Riley joined Kereos as Vice President of Development in December 2003. Previously he was Senior Vice President of Research & Development at Metaphore Pharmaceuticals, where he successfully led all of Metaphore’s research and development efforts including advancing the company’s two lead candidates into clinical trials. Dr. Riley joined Metaphore in 1999 as Vice President of Research, following a 15 year career at Monsanto, where he held several positions including Senior Science Fellow and Manager of Metal-Mediated Chemistry in Monsanto's Corporate Research Division. Prior to Monsanto he was Section Head of Process Chemistry at Procter & Gamble Corporate Technology Division. Dr. Riley holds a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Ohio State University and a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from Heidelberg College, and was a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Jack Halpern at the University of Chicago.

The company also hired Jeffery Keene as Director of Pharmacology.  Previously he was an Associate Fellow at Pfizer Research and Development, where he led the pharmacology efforts for several oncology and inflammation projects.  Dr. Keene joined Monsanto in 1989 and held several positions in Corporate Research and Development including leading the in vivo Pharmacology Group for the Department of Oncology.  Dr. Keene holds a Ph.D. in Physiology/Pharmacology and an MS in Biology from St. Louis University, and a BS in Biology from Missouri State University. He was a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Irving Boime at Washington University.

Kereos also announced the promotion of Kendall Killgore to Manager of Product Development, and added Amruta Poreddy and Otto Schall as Senior Chemists, and Kari Vincent as Marketing Associate.

About Kereos
Kereos develops products designed to provide more effective detection and treatment of cancer and cardiovascular disease.  The first two products are expected to enter clinical trials for solid tumors late this year.  The company’s proprietary technology pairs diagnosis and therapy by targeting imaging agents or therapeutics specifically to the disease site.  The company’s targeted imaging agents allow for more accurate and sensitive imaging, and its targeted therapeutics deliver potent and precise therapy.  In addition to advancing its internal pipeline, Kereos is working with leading pharmaceutical and imaging companies, including Bristol-Myers Squibb Medical Imaging on the development and commercialization of cardiovascular disease magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) agents, and Philips Medical Systems on the development of molecular imaging systems.  Kereos is a privately-held company, headquartered in St. Louis at the Center for Emerging Technologies.
